Paddle ‘n’ Ski Hadspen Race 24 January 2017

Race Report from 24th January 2017 from Mark Rathmell

The river was 0.6 at Longford so it meant that there was some flow, it seemed like a quick night was on the cards with eddie lines allowing some quick up current paddling. Wind was kind to us tonight for a change. The club welcomed two new paddlers along tonight Sean Oliver and Rose Tilsley lining up for their TT. I’m sure they enjoyed their first race at Hadspen.

Thanks to Paul Clarke for timing tonight. A tight race at the finish keeping Paul very busy.

First over the line was Mark Rathmell, paddling hard to finally crack 32 minutes (only taken 3 years!) with a 36 second PB, second was ever improving Paul Walker with a 24 second PB, next was Claye Mace always with a smile on his face, coming in with a 26 second PB, Next was K1 paddler Geoff Macqueen with a PB of 16 seconds. Geoff had his hands full through the narrows with Paul Walker and Mark Rathmell meeting him right at the “shute” made for some close quarters paddling. No one swam ! Next was Jono, Just off a PB, Jono is ever improving and was getting some private tutoring from some of the old dogs, so expect his times to tumble in the coming weeks. Next was Phil Barratt just off a PB. Next was Martina Wyss, apparently spent some time dodging a platypus.

Thanks Mark for the race report.
