June Under 3 Trip Report

Where: North Esk – Corra Linn to St Leonard’s

When: Sunday Jun 7th 2015

Number of participants: 13 (including leaders)

Grade: 1

In spite of the inclement weather and marginal river level we had a great turn-out and an enjoyable time. The rain held off, but the wind made for a strenuous paddle down the home straight.

With 13 participants, we split into 2 groups. Jason lead the first group and Hippy, the second.

Eve was back for more. Her first time on a rapid meant some apprehensive moments (for her) and after successfully negotiating the hardest bits, the indignity of her first swim. Her baptism to white water paddling…

With the first few hundred meters having two of the main features, the second group concentrated on surfing and cutting in and out of the eddies there. They also had a few trips over the rock weir at the end.

The pruning that Jack and I did a few weeks ago, while not removing the whole obstacle, has opened up the safe passage about half way down.

Miles took some footage so look out for that.

We had 4 newbies to Under 3’s with probably a new member amongst them.

The après kayak Café was again popular, especially the soup. Ryan was so engrossed he missed all the cars taking drivers to the top.

Thanks to Jason for being the rostered leader on the day and to Hippy for leading the second group. Thanks also to Amy, Jonathan and Pete for being on-hand to offer assistance.

Next Under 3 Trip: The weekend of 4th and 5th July.
Look for notices on Paddle-Flash and Facebook, on the evening of Thurs 2nd July.

Expect more water!!!

Cheers
