Hadspen Race February 24 2015

After a slight heat wave we were greeted by some much appreciated cooler weather, with a light headwind on return for this weeks race.

With three new paddlers including two with a speedy reputation some fast times were anticipated. The headwind on the return got the better of most but Amanda and Peter managed to get season bests of 84 s and 24 s respectively, good job guys. Squeezing between Amanda in first and Peter in third across the line was Tom Mountney, making a return to the race series, clearly in form with a time of 31:28. Next across the line was the end of an epic backmarker battle with Michael Hanemaayer holding out Blake after having a boat length between them all race. Both guys looked like they were hurting as they crossed the line with times of 30:28 and 30:30 respectively, great paddle. Paul Walker decided to give himself an extra handicap, but had a good paddle getting within 30 s of his season best.

I came across the line in seventh, about 70s off season best; Jack followed me over the line after chasing Peter hard on the way up he ran out of petrol tickets on the way home. Michael Peters and Mark come over the line together, both suspiciously off there season bests, there were whispers of swimming after the race but not enough to glean the identity of rescuer and rescuee. Next across the line, all the way from the Czech republic, was Matyas Zieris, perhaps the distance was a bit further than expected as he looked quick before the race. The final paddler over the line was the ever punctual Richard with a reasonable time.

Welcome to Michael, Tom and Matyas.

Thanks to Paul Kelly for timing, results are below.
