Hadspen Race 2 December 2014

Well Tuesdays nights has been run and won with the one and only (I’ll round them up) Rollsy taking the cake. There were a few questions wondering if there could be something in the East Launceston water, because coming in second place was continual improver Amanda Chong again knocking minutes off her time. And rounding out the podium places was the fast finishing Blake Miller, an impressive effort considering his starting time!

The race itself was again a spectacle with a few paddlers proving their ability to multitask and avoid the conventional approach to race first, and shower later, deciding that it was clearly, better time management, to have a tub half way through and went for a mid race dip. This was to the delight of the ever graceful and humble Peter Lee who sacrificed his own race to assist with the remount and to see if the paddlers in question were in need of any shampoos, soaps, or conditioners, thanks Pete! The race also saw a newcomer grace the banks of the South Esk, although upon consultation of historical records it was revealed it may not of been his first entrance into the Hadspen event, checking in way back in the summer of 2011, welcome/welcome back Ross McDonald!

Another mentionable was a certain paddler was rumoured to have made the call; “once I have paddle under 37 minutes I will buy a ski” So Phil Nelson, could be worth loading a few extra boats onto the trailer next time your up, and I’ll let you decipher who it is that you may need to talk to……………

Well done to all whom competed and completed the race. Remember next Tuesday 9th December is the last official race of the year with the following weeks to be a modified format and end of year BBQ. To those whom are not paid up to date, Pony Up!! ladies and gents as your funds contribute to said BBQ.

Until next week.
