September Under 3 Trip Report

Where: North Esk – Corra Linn Picnic Ground to St Leonards

When: Saturday September 6th 2014

Number of participants: 27 (including leaders)

Grade: 1/2

What a great turnout !!

This section of river is fast becoming my favorite for introducing paddlers to white water and providing a safe environment for learning and practicing the basics of ferry glides, cutting in and out of eddies and surfing.

The main hazard is the fallen tree about halfway down.  Don’t be surprised if it soon disappears.

We split into four groups of about six, each with an instructor and/or Grade 3+ paddlers.  Most groups played on the two main rapids, one made a beeline for the bottom.

One family brought sit-on-tops.  These craft are most welcome on Under 3 Trips on such a section of river so encourage any owners you know to join us next time.  A reminder to bring helmets, as well as life jackets, for safety.  I will include such an invitation in appropriate trip notices in future.

A few new faces to the Club:  Ingrid, Azra and Colin.

Thanks to Claye, Pete and Jonathan for being the rostered leaders on the day. Thanks to Hippy, Jason and Dave H for each leading a group.  Thanks to all the Grade 3+ paddlers for making the trip safe and enjoyable for all participants.  Thanks to all seventeen Under 3 paddlers for making organisation of such trips so worthwhile.

Next Under 3 Trip: The weekend of 4th and 5th October.

Look for notices on Paddle-Flash and Facebook, on the evening of Thurs 2nd Oct.

Cheers

David
