July Under 3 Trip Report

Where:  South Esk – Evandale to Perth

When:  Saturday July 5th 2014

Number of participants:  14 (including leaders)

Grade: Flat water with a bit of Grade 1/2

Apologies for the late report.  Have just returned from a (delightful) Arthur River trip (separate post)

Another great turnout with both Under 3 newbies and Club newbies.

Again the rain held off.  With no wind and a bit of sunshine, the flat water sections slid by.  A delightful stretch of farming country.

After some reconnaissance, Dom lead his Dad (Claye) down the intimidating Glendessary Fall in the Toppo Duo.  Everyone else took a big swallow and had a go too.

The Perth Mill Fall was less intimidating, mainly because we didn’t get out for a look-see beforehand.

One new face to the Club:  Welcome Martin.

Thanks to Jason and Paul S for being the rostered leaders on the day.  Thanks to Jonathan for being ready with the throw rope below both falls, in case anyone found themselves swimming.  Well done to young David K for getting the stray kayak safely to the bank below Glendessary.

Next Under 3 Trip:  Saturday 2nd Aug – the Ben Lomond Decent course on the North Esk
Look for details on Paddle-Flash and Facebook, on the evening of Thurs 31st July.

Ad Hoc Grade 2 Trips:  With water levels up more frequently now, keep an eye out for announcements of ad hoc Grade 2 trips on the Meander (below Meander), the lower Mersey and the Ringarooma.
Unless stated otherwise, these are peer activities, so are not suitable for those without previous experience (and a level of comfort) on Grade 1+ rivers.
Under 3 Trips will eventually get to these rivers.

Cheers

David
