May Under 3 Trip Report

Where:  Hadspen

When:  Sunday May 4th 2014

Number of participants:  18 (including leaders)

At 10am on Sunday things were looking bleak.  Participants were gathering at the turnoff to Longford weir.   But the gate was locked, the water level was too low for surfing, the flow was falling further
and ten of us had our backs to a biting 15 kt southerly.

Fortunately Barnesy had had the foresight to check Hadspen on the way to Longford.  It was looking good there.  So, after all latecomers were advised, off we went to the new venue.

When all the stragglers had arrived there were 18 people on the water.  6 to (almost) 60 year olds.  Paddling newbie to Grade 5+ paddler.  Both genders well represented amongst the kids and the adults.

The water level was perfect for Hadspen.  The sun came out and there was little wind.  Flat water for novices, a couple of waves for the more proficient and plenty of eddies.

We would have photos of highlights, except everyone was too engrossed in paddling.

Thanks to Barnesy and Sean for being the rostered leaders on the day and thanks to all the other Grade 3+ paddlers for your guidance and encouragement.  Congratulations to all the Under 3 paddlers for paddling out of your comfort zones and having a go.

A perfect first Under 3 Trip!

Next Under 3 Trip:  The weekend of 31st May / 1st June, water permitting.
Look for notices on Paddle-Flash and Facebook, on the evening of Thurs 29th May.

Cheers

David
